Customers of financial institutions across the Ozarks are experiencing more phishing or fraudulent messages about their accounts, according to a local security task force.

In many cases, the automated phone calls are made under the pretext that there have been unauthorized charges to the recipient’s debit card. The caller asks the recipient to provide an account number for identification.

CU Community Credit Union says these calls are not legitimate, adding that credit union and bank officials will never ask for personal or account information by these means. If consumers receive a call asking for propriety account information,  they should hang up and call your financial institution to report and verify the call. CU Community Credit Union says its personnel will never ask for personal or account information through messages like these. If you receive a fraudulent message, we urge you to not give out any personal account information.
