Director of Mortgage Operations Role

Responsible for the daily oversight of mortgage operations, developing procedures, and the development of systems to expedite the delivery of mortgage loans through processing, underwriting and closing, to the sale of mortgage loans to secondary markets. Recommend procedures and policies to management, as needed, to ensure member service objectives are being achieved and to ensure the credit union’s smooth and orderly operation. 

Work Environment

No hazardous or significantly unpleasant conditions (such as in a typical office).

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Oversee the daily administration and operations of the Mortgage Lending department, supervising and guiding mortgage operations personnel regarding lending goals, policies and procedures within the scope of operations.
  • Ensure that proper procedures are in place to meet the strategic goals of the credit union, and that policies, objectives, and regulatory requirements are implemented.
  • Maintain adequate knowledge of both internal and external policies, guidelines and compliance regulations to successfully complete all other aspects of assigned job duties.
  • Conduct and/or implementation of training of new employees as well as continued education opportunities for current staff.
  • Screen, interview and hire new employees as needed.
  • Develop and maintain department resources (i.e. checklists, walk throughs, help guides) within the knowledge base system.
  • Complete other required job duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Skills

Eight to ten years of similar or related experience. 

(1) A two-year college degree, or (2) completion of a specialized certification or licensing, or (3) completion of specialized training courses conducted by vendors, or (4) job-specific skills acquired through an apprenticeship program. 

Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization for the purpose of first-level conflict resolution, building relationships, and soliciting cooperation. Discussions involve a higher degree of confidentiality and discretion, requiring diplomacy and tact in communication.
